What are the major factors behind downfall of Nokia’s Smartphone in market? Why Nokia could not exist in Smartphone market?
An introduction to Nokia
Company:
Nokia is a multinational company of Finland. It was founded in 1865 by Fedrik Idestam as paper mill. The company deals with telecommunication infrastructure, internet, mobile network, technology and software world-wide. Nokia also work on Artificial Intelligence. Its head quarter is in Espoo, Finland. The Finnish company was proud for Finland for its world wide popularity. In Smartphone world Nokia Company had a unique and uncontested identity.
Nokia’s Smartphone product
and product manufacturing:
Nokia Company entered into market of
mobile phone in year 1998. It was the biggest vendor of Mobile phones for more
than 100 countries. Nokia had own product and own software. During 1998 Nokia
was largest manufacturer of mobile phones in the world. The keypad sets of
Nokia Company are very stronger and easy to use for consumers. It was the most
popular company among mobile phone companies. The best features of all hand
sets are good network receiving capacity, beautiful handsets and long time battery
backup. But the technology was text user interface based which was drawback
sign in Smartphone world.
Competition among competitors
in market:
The competitors in market for Nokia are
international brands like Apple, Samsung, Chinese brands like VIVO, Blackberry
and local products like Micromax and Carbon then. They all came with new touch screen
features and Android technology while Nokia was still using Symbian Technology
for its handsets. Android version software technology was pictorial base which
was very easy for every user. Touch screen technology attracted customers to
opt for Android version rather than Nokia.
Downfall and close down of
Nokia brand mobile:
Nokia was a leading mobile company in
increasing Smartphone market with its robust cell phones. All of sudden the
company diminished its sales and closed down. It became hard to compete with
other competitors for Nokia. The higher authority brought many changes to
improve sales to sustain in market but in vein. After a huge loss by Smartphone
making and selling the company decided to sale its entity to Microsoft. What were
the viable reasons behind downfall of mobile giant discussed in detain below.
Reasons:
Customer dissatisfaction for
Nokia Mobile phone: -
The mismatch of product features and consumer
demand is the foremost reason of customer’s dissatisfaction. While Android
lunched with GUI means graphic user interface, Nokia was still using TUI means
text user interface in his cell phones. GUI was far better than TUI from
operating point of view. The app access through icon was easier than systematic
approach of following text lines step by step.
Company’s Failure to upgrade
product quality in time: -
The products of Nokia could not cope up
with the trending mobile phones of that time. The contemporary features in
android sets are more attractive than symbian technology. The company did not
think of upgrading his mobile and technology used in it. When they come to know
that their competitors had left them far behind, it was a long distance and
delay for Nokia to upgrade itself. The company lunched Nokia Lumia and Asha
series still it was a too late to fight with android.
Over Confidence:-
The feature like touch screen in
android was not found in Nokia’s handsets. It was a misconception of higher
authority that customers don’t like to use touch screen in lieu of keypad set. They
have over confidence for their brand value to sustain in market. They believed
that their goodwill can bring them success in selling. Hence the company higher
authority did not think of upgrading or changing of technology. In the era of 4G,
Nokia did not have even 3G enabled phones which was a major cause of turn down
of company.
Mismanagement Strategy:-
There was internal disturbance which
was mysterious yet, caused to failure of the company. Internal means among the
management of Nokia who were the highly responsible for undertaking and growth
of the selling. But one thing is that the founder of the company had left the
overall charges in CEO only, who was the main villain of downfall of Nokia. It was
anticipated that Nokia had changed its CEO twice during crisis of his product
in market that was a principal factor of failure of the company. Loopholes in decision making ruined the company into ash.
