Location
Odisha is a state of India in Asian continent. It is
located in eastern part of India. Its neighbour states are Jharkand in north,
Andhra Pradesh in south, West Bengal in east, Chhattisgarh in west and
Telangana in south west. The Bay of Bengal is on east side of Odisha. Total
area of Odisha is 155707km2.
Population
Its population is about four crores. The birth rate
exceeds over death rate. The male female ratios are 50-50.
Language
Odia is the foremost language of Odisha while many
local and other Indian languages are used rampantly allover Odisha. You can
find variation even in local languages of every district in Odisha. But all
languages don’t have written form. The language of Ganjam district is the only
written and printed language. Apart from odia many other languages like hindi,
English and many south Indian languages are spoken here.
Education
Education system of odisha goes through primary,
secondary, higher secondary. Broadly this system has been divided into two category
that is government own and private own schools and colleges. Though numbers of
facilities are available for students in government schools and colleges, more
than 50% parents like to send their kids in private schools for their primary
and secondary education with a view to good education and smartness.
Costumes
People of Odisha seem to be in vibrant colourful
dresses. However, the traditional dress of this state is dhoti and kurta with
turban on head for male while female uses saree, petticoat, frock etc.
according to season costumes are changed. However now a days the impact of
foreign modern dressing style is flourishing in this state. Fashion prevails
overall dressing forum.
Food habits
Some traditional food like dahi pakhal and many
delicious recipes like badhi chura, aludam and somelocal recipe are very
popular. With an advancement of education and culture people changes food
habits. So variation in food menu can be found all over there.
Famous places
Lord Jagannath temple at Puri, Sun temple at Konark,
Lingaraj temple at Bhubaneswar is some of the famous temple and pilgrimages of
Odisha. Apart from these there are many wild life sanctuaries like reservoir at
Similipala, Tortoil rearing at Bhitarkanika, Elephant reservoir at Chandaka ban
are some tourism places of Odisha.
Festivals
Odisha is a
place of vibrating festivals where one can enjoy number of local, national and
international festivals throughout the year. Raja is one of the local popular
festival while Diwali and Dushera are mostly awaiting national festivals. New
year celebration and Christmas are international festivals that people of
concerned community enjoy vigorously.
Administration
The administration of Odisha is very strong and
sensible. The control over crime, corruption, extortion and rape are negligible
in this state. It is the evidence that this costal state has faced devastate
cyclones almost every year but without loss of life. All IPS, OAS, and IAS
officers of all departments are good and tactful enough to handle such
adversity situation.
Political forum
As it is a part of India, so public experience
democracy government in Odisha. The government is elected every five years by
general election. Everyone who is more than 18 years have voting right. One
government serves for five years than another election takes place for new
government.
Income resources
The major part of income comes from agriculture field.
However many people do jobs in government sectors whereas many in private
industries in country and abroad. Many business men have their business dome
where thousands of people earn livelihood. Apart from it numbers of solo
entrepreneurs opens small scale shops, mills and industries every day. Animal
husbandry is one of the advanced resource of earning.
Odisha before independence
Before independence Odisha was known as Kalinga and
Utkal. Many great warriors and freedom fighters sacrificed their life for
freedom of odisha and India. Brave Surendra Sai, Baxi Jagabandhu, Birsa Munda
are some of popular martyr of this sacred land. The social workers like
utkalmani Gopabandhu Das, Ramadevi are very inspiring personalities for to days
generation as well. Paika rebel is one of the first rebels agains British rule
in India which was started in Oidsha by many odia rebellion and freedom fighters.
Tradition and culture
Peoples of Odisha are very religious and kind hearted.
This is the land of lord Jagannath. Millions of pilgrims and devotees from
whole world come every year to visit Sreekhetra Dhaam. The famous Car Festival
is celebrated not only in Odisha but also in many countries worldwide. The
odishi dance and many folk dances and songs are world famous. Tiger dance and
bull and horses dance are some popular local dance performs during marriage
ceremony and festivals.
Climate and agriculture
The climate of Odisha is moderate hot which is
completely affected by south west monsoon rainflall throughout the state. The
back bone of Odisha economy is farming. As it is full of land resources with
large wide spread plain lands, it helps for large quanity production of paddy,
wheat, sugarcane, maize crops etc. and all variants vegetables in two different
seasonal production i.e kharif crops and rabi crops. Many types of lentils and
pulses, pea, peanut, spices are also gives good harvest to the farmers.
Animal and birds
Wide varieties of animals and birds are found in this
state. Some common animals like dog, cow, hyena, fox, jackal, rabbit, elephant,
monkey, beer, deer, wild boar, black buck, guzzle, reptiles like lizards,
poisonous snakes, amphibians like frog,
turtle, tortoise, crab, crocodile and sweet water fish etc. birds like crow,
crane, swan, pelican, kite, vulture, eagle, sparrow, bet, hawk, cuckoo, parrot,
myna, kingfisher, woodcutter, mango bird, peacock and duck and hen etc. are
seen every part of this state.
